The 24th Poznań Marathon is officially open for registration, with thousands of runners expected to take on the 42.195-kilometre challenge on 12 October 2025. One of Poland’s most prestigious running events, this marathon is not only a competition but also a celebration of endurance, community, and the rich cultural heritage of Poznań.
With attractive discounts for local residents and a growing reputation on the international marathon scene, this year’s edition promises to be one of the most exciting yet. Here’s everything you need to know before lacing up your running shoes and heading to the starting line.
A Marathon Steeped in History
The Poznań Marathon has come a long way since its first edition in 2000, where 831 runners took to the streets. Today, it is one of Poland’s most recognised running events, attracting elite athletes and amateur runners alike.
Over the past 24 years, almost 90,000 runners have completed the course, making Poznań a true capital of marathon running. The race has seen record-breaking performances, including the current course record of 2:09:57, set by Shaku Petro Mamu from Eritrea in 2023. On the women’s side, the fastest recorded time is 2:27:01, achieved by Caroline Cheptanui Kilel from Kenya in 2022.
Beyond the numbers, the Poznań Marathon is a beloved tradition, known for its fantastic organisation, passionate crowd support, and stunning urban course that showcases the best of the city.

Late registrations will be accepted on 10 and 11 October, but only at the Marathon Office at the Poznań International Fair. Given the popularity of the event, it’s strongly advised to register as early as possible.
A Special Category: The Academic Cup
Once again, the marathon will include a special classification: the Janusz Grzeszczuk Academic Cup. This category is dedicated to students, doctoral candidates, and university staff, allowing them to compete for a unique title alongside their academic peers.
It’s a fantastic initiative. It brings together people from different universities who share a passion for running. Last year’s race was an unforgettable experience, and I’m definitely signing up again this year.
Says Michał, a PhD student from university in Poznań.
More Than Just a Race – A True Celebration
