After a summer of outdoor concerts and events around the city, Blue Note Poznań is returning to its regular concert season this September. The programme includes contemporary interpretations of jazz classics, tango, Brazilian music, Polish folk traditions and some of the biggest names in Polish and international jazz.
The new season opens tomorrow on 19 September with Paulina Przybysz, whose Insides project brings familiar jazz classics into a contemporary setting shaped by modern production and hip-hop influences.
Przybysz will be joined by Marek Pędziwiatr, Tymon Kosma, Wiktoria Jakubowska, Olaf Węgrzyn and Krzysztof Baranowski. The project follows the artist's recent appearance with Blue Jazz Orchestra at BitterSweet Festival.
The following evening, 20 September, brings Three Cities Project, led by accordionist and bandoneon player Wiesław Prządka. Together with Dominik Bukowski and double bassist Piotr Lemańczyk, he explores tango through influences ranging from Astor Piazzolla and Richard Galliano to Django Reinhardt.
From Polish folk to Brazilian jazz
On 25 September, Blue Note's Nowi Mistrzowie series turns towards the south with SUFERI, winners of the Grand Prix at the Nowa Tradycja Polish folk music competition.
The group will perform with Brazilian bassist Frederico Heliodoro, whose collaborations have included musicians such as Kurt Rosenwinkel and Milton Nascimento. Their Poznań performance brings together elements of Polish dance rhythms, jazz and electronics with Brazilian music.
The concert is also part of Blue Note's initiative offering free admission to students of music academies and music schools.
The programme continues on 26 September with veteran Polish saxophonist Andrzej Olejniczak, appearing with pianist Mateusz Kaszuba, double bassist Michał Barański and drummer Łukasz Żyta.
The quartet will perform Olejniczak's own material, drawing on hard bop and free jazz while incorporating the character of flamenco.
Marcin Wasilewski Trio and Joe Lovano
The month's headline concert arrives on 27 September, when Marcin Wasilewski Trio brings its Jazz Top series to the club with American tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano.
The musicians have a long-standing connection. Their collaboration began in 2006 at the Bielska Zadymka Jazzowa festival and later developed into recordings including Arctic Riff for ECM and Hommage, recorded during a week-long quartet residency at New York's Village Vanguard.
For Blue Note, the concert also marks a return to one of the club's central roles in Poznań's cultural calendar: bringing established international jazz musicians together with leading figures from Poland's own scene.
With the summer programme now behind it, the club's September line-up offers a varied start to the new indoor season.
