Public transport in Poznań will be free on Sunday, 1st of November, when many people visit the graves of relatives for All Saints’ Day.

Extra trams and buses will serve the city’s cemeteries on that day and on Saturday, 31st of October, and new bins for electrical waste have been installed at the two largest municipal cemeteries.

Free trams and buses on 1st of November

The city encourages travellers heading to the cemeteries to use public transport. On Sunday, 1st of November, travel on ZTM (Poznań’s public transport authority) trams and buses will be free on all lines and in all zones. Voice announcements in vehicles will inform passengers.

More trams to Junikowo and Miłostowo

Between 8:30 and 16:30, trams will reach the area around Junikowo and Miłostowo, the city’s largest cemeteries, about every two minutes. Line 5 will be extended to Miłostowo and line 6 to Junikowo.

On 1st of November, both lines will run to the cemeteries all day, every 10 minutes between 8:00 and 17:00. Lines 1, 7, 8 and 13 will also run every 10 minutes during those hours, while line 15 will run every 5 minutes until 15:30 and every 10 minutes from then until 17:00.

Three additional tram lines will operate between 9:00 and 16:00:

  • Line 41: Junikowo - Miłostowo, every 10 minutes

  • Line 43: Junikowo - Błażeja, every 10 minutes

  • Line 46: Os. Sobieskiego - Miłostowo, every 20 minutes

An additional bus line, 133, will also run, as it traditionally does at this time of year. It connects Rondo Śródka (Śródka Roundabout) with the Miłostowo cemetery from the Gnieźnieńska Street side, every 10 minutes between 8:00 and 17:00, and departs from the same stop as line 173. Buses 177 and 182 will run every 10 minutes between 8:00 and 17:00, and line 183 every 15 minutes.

Several bus lines will also use altered routes because of temporary one-way traffic on Złotowska, Św. Antoniego and Gnieźnieńska streets. This affects lines 133, 173, 177, 189, 194, 217 and 729. Buses 342 and 348, travelling towards Poznań from Murowana Goślina/Poznańska, will be diverted all day via Poznańska, Mściszewska and Raduszyńska streets and will call at temporary stops. Passengers should check the exact diversions before travelling.

Saturday, 31st of October

A Saturday timetable applies on 31st of October, with extra services.

Line 5 will run to Miłostowo between 8:00 and 17:00, every 10 minutes from 8:00 to 12:00.

Line 6 will run to Junikowo all day.

Lines 6 and 15 will run every 6 or 7 minutes between 8:00 and 12:00 and every 7 or 8 minutes between 12:00 and 17:00, and line 1 every 10 minutes in the morning and every 7 or 8 minutes in the afternoon.

The extra bus line 133 and buses 177, 182 and 183 will run at the same frequencies as on 1st of November.

New e-waste bins at the cemeteries

The municipal cemeteries at Miłostowo and Junikowo now have containers for electrical waste, 30 at each. They are intended for used batteries and small electronics, such as LED inserts for grave candles (znicze). The new bins are red and labelled “elektrośmieci” (e-waste), and most stand next to existing waste collection points.

Usługi Komunalne (Municipal Services) is encouraging everyone who decorates graves with electric candles and lanterns to use them, and says the number of people choosing electric light sources is growing. Separating used batteries from general waste will help protect the environment.

Candle exchange points and tool loans

The bins are not the only environmental measure at the cemeteries. For many years, both have had candle exchange points, marked racks where visitors can leave or take candle holders free of charge. There are now 95, near the entrance gates and main paths. Anyone leaving a znicz should remove the plastic candle insert and make sure it is undamaged, preferably free of sand and wax.

The two cemeteries also have 110 points where visitors can borrow garden tools, such as rakes, brooms and watering cans, free of charge. Many are combined with the znicz exchange points.

For waste that can’t be left at an exchange point, glass, plastic and ceramic candle holders, plastic and ceramic pots, and artificial flowers and ribbons go in the mixed waste bins. Flowers and potted plants go in the bio-waste bins, without soil or pots.
