This summer, Poznań transforms once again into a vibrant hub of art, music, and community as the Malta Festival 2025 celebrates its 35th edition. From June 20–28, 2025, immerse yourself in a dynamic blend of performances, workshops, and street festivities that capture the essence of contemporary culture.

A Legacy of Artistic Innovation

Since its inception in 1991, the Malta Festival has been a cornerstone of Poznań’s cultural landscape. Originally centered around Lake Malta, the festival has evolved into one of Central and Eastern Europe’s premier arts events, showcasing a diverse array of theatre, dance, music, and visual arts. Its commitment to pushing artistic boundaries and fostering community engagement has solidified its reputation as a must-attend event for culture enthusiasts. 

Highlights of the Malta Festival 2025 Edition

Theatrical and Dance Performances

  • “Embodying Pasolini”: A collaboration between Olivier Saillard and Tilda Swinton, this performance delves into the life and work of Italian filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini. 
  • “The Monster’s Voice”: An opera inspired by Agnieszka Holland’s “Europa Europa,” directed by Agnieszka Smoczyńska, promises a poignant exploration of identity and survival. 
  • Dewey Dell’s Double Feature: Experience the avant-garde dance pieces “I’ll Do, I’ll Do, I’ll Do” and “The Rite of Spring,” offering fresh interpretations of classical themes.

Musical Extravaganza

The festival’s music lineup boasts an eclectic mix of genres:

  • Róisín Murphy: The electropop icon returns to Poznań after nine years, bringing her unique sound to the festival stage.
  • BADBADNOTGOOD: The Canadian jazz ensemble known for their genre-blending compositions.
  • Fink: The British singer-songwriter offers soulful melodies and introspective lyrics.
  • L’Impératrice: This French band delivers disco-infused pop that’s sure to get audiences dancing.
  • The Teskey Brothers: Australian blues-rock at its finest, combining heartfelt vocals with vintage instrumentation.

Street Performances and Installations

  • La Dinamo: A Catalan funk band performing on bicycles, turning city streets into mobile concerts.
  • La Confizerie: A 15-piece French brass band blending disco, techno, and Latin rhythms in high-energy performances.
  • Bandakadabra: Hailing from Turin, this ensemble brings a mix of jazz, pop, and experimental sounds to the urban landscape.
  • “Rozéo” by Cie Gratte Ciel: An aerial spectacle transforming the Old Market Square into a dreamlike performance space.

Join the Festival as a Volunteer

The Malta Festival thrives on community involvement, and volunteers play a crucial role in its success. Whether you’re assisting with guest services, production logistics, audience coordination, marketing, or media, there’s a place for you. Volunteers receive training, support from experienced coordinators, and the opportunity to attend select Malta Festival 2025 events. What You’ll Do

Whether your passion lies in logistics, audience support, social media, or working directly with artists, there’s a department for you. Volunteers can join Malta Festival 2025 teams such as:

  • Welcome Desk: Be the first face festivalgoers see, helping with info and accreditation.
  • Production & Logistics: Dive into the event’s backstage operation and learn how complex performances come together.
  • Guest Services: Accompany artists from around the world, manage schedules, and practise your language skills.
  • Audience Support: Help guests get seated and stay informed, from concerts to outdoor cinema.
  • Marketing & Media: Create content, support PR campaigns, and work with the festival’s social media crew.
  • Festival TV: Learn video production and document the event’s most exciting moments.

Who Can Apply?

Anyone over the age of 16 with enthusiasm and a willingness to engage can apply—no previous experience needed. Volunteers are trained beforehand and guided throughout the festival by experienced staff. You’ll receive an official certificate, and in many cases, the experience can count toward student internships.
