Chasing the Charm of Poznań… and Getting Chased by ‘Show-Girls’ Instead: An Opinion Piece from Our Reader

I came to Poznań full of enthusiasm. As a film producer, I wanted to capture the city’s beauty on camera and share it with my international colleagues and potential investors. And honestly, it’s not hard to fall in love with the city—especially at night. The Old Market Square, with its historic facades, soft lighting, and buzzing atmosphere, is visually stunning. It really does feel like the perfect movie set.

But every time I tried to show that charm, something kept getting in the way—persistent street solicitors inviting me and my guests to visit their club for a “show.” And by persistent, I mean really persistent. Even after saying “nie, dziękuję” (no thank you) more than once, they followed us. It went from mildly awkward to downright uncomfortable.

Lights, Camera… Please Stop Talking to Me

Here’s the thing: I respect the hustle. Everyone has the right to earn a living. But there’s a line between making a pitch and not taking no for an answer. We weren’t rude. We were polite. But even “nie teraz” (not now) didn’t slow them down.

The effect? Instead of admiring the architecture or discussing potential filming angles, my guests were distracted, confused, and honestly a little put off. It’s not the best look when you’re trying to position Poznań as an elegant, creative hub for international productions.

A Simple Suggestion

I’m not suggesting anyone be shut down completely. In fact, I think there’s a fair compromise: allow promotional flyers, but limit verbal solicitation. People can take a flyer if they’re interested—no pressure, no following, no awkward encounters.

Las Vegas has already figured this out. Yes, it’s a city known for entertainment, but it also understands boundaries. You’re free to promote, just not in people’s faces. It keeps the experience more comfortable for everyone.

Imagine a walk through Stary Rynek at night where you can actually enjoy the sights, stop for a photo, talk business, or just relax—without being interrupted every few steps. That’s the Poznań I want to show the world.

Visitors and locals get to enjoy the evening atmosphere. Business owners can still market their venues. And the city maintains a welcoming, modern image—one that matches the beauty of its streets and architecture.

One Last Frame

Poznań truly shines at night. I want to share that side of it with the world—on film, and in person. But if we want people to see its best side, we have to give them space to experience it. Let’s keep the charm and cut the interruptions.

Poznań deserves to be remembered for its style—not for how many times someone had to say “no, thank you.”
