Glide into the Season: Ice Skating in Poznań 2025 Begins with Malta’s Grand Opening

There’s something timeless about gliding over a smooth sheet of ice on a crisp winter day. For many, it’s the smell of cold air, the echo of blades cutting through the ice, and the laughter of families wrapped in scarves and mittens. Ice skating in Poznań has become one of the city’s most cherished autumn-winter traditions — a joyful blend of sport, nostalgia, and seasonal charm. Whether you skate like a pro or cling to the rail with a grin, the city’s rinks offer plenty of ways to make winter a little brighter.

Malta Ice Rink: A Fresh Start to the Season

The undisputed star of the season, Lodowisko Malta, officially opens on Saturday, 18 October, kicking off the 2025 season for ice skating in Poznań with double the fun. At the picturesque site near ul. Jana Pawła II and Baraniaka, just by the regatta course, Malta’s rink is back under its familiar white tent, promising hours of winter joy.

This year’s launch comes with a Double Ice Party, featuring music, colorful lights, and an energetic DJ set from DJ Sopel. The first session starts at 16:00, followed by another round at 19:00 after a short ice-cleaning break. Visitors can also expect free advice and mini-lessons for beginners — a perfect opportunity to get comfortable on the ice before the season takes off.

Malta Ice Rink will be open daily from 8:00 to 22:00, with extended hours until 23:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. Short technical breaks for ice resurfacing are scheduled at 12:30, 15:30, and 18:30, each lasting around half an hour.

Prices remain affordable, with weekday morning tickets at 16 zł (normal) and 11 zł (reduced), and weekend and evening rates at 24 zł and 19 zł respectively. Families can benefit from special passes, while holders of the OK Poznań card can enjoy discounted entry for ice rinks. On-site facilities include skate, helmet, and walker rentals (for children), as well as skate sharpening and optional instructor sessions for those eager to polish their technique.

According to city officials, nearly 50,000 people visited the rink last year — a testament to the growing popularity of ice skating in Poznań. With improved access from the city center via the new Berdychowskie Bridges, this year’s season is expected to attract even more Poznanians to lace up their skates and enjoy one of the city’s most beloved sports traditions.

Other Ice Rinks Completing Poznań’s Winter Map

While Malta remains the heart of the season, it’s far from the only place to enjoy ice skating in Poznań. The city’s network of rinks ensures that everyone — from casual skaters to serious enthusiasts — can find a favorite spot.

Chwiałka Ice Rink

Located at ul. Żelazka 1, Chwiałka is Poznań’s classic full-size indoor rink and a home base for figure skaters and hockey players. It’s a great choice for those who prefer a professional, sheltered environment or want to practice regularly regardless of the weather. Skates can be rented on-site, and sharpening services are available. The rink operates daily following a schedule adjusted for club activities, so it’s best to check timings in advance.

Ligawa Ice Rink

By Enea Stadium on ul. Bułgarska, Ligawa is another beloved venue, offering a modern indoor surface ideal for family outings. Its atmosphere is relaxed yet energetic, often drawing both sports enthusiasts and casual skaters from nearby districts. Rental equipment and instructor support are available during most open sessions.

Christmas Ice Rink at MTP

The festive highlight of Poznań’s winter season, the Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie (MTP) rink, transforms the trade fair grounds into a sparkling wonderland. Surrounded by lights and Christmas stalls, it combines skating with the holiday market spirit. Whether you’re sipping hot chocolate after a few laps or teaching your kids their first glide, it’s one of the city’s most magical seasonal experiences. Many locals are also hoping for the return of the Old Market Square rink, which last year brought the joy of skating right into the heart of Poznań’s historic center.

Quick look:

  • Chwiałka (Żelazka 1): Indoor rink, equipment rental, check schedule online
  • Ligawa (Bułgarska 17): Family-friendly indoor ice, close to Enea Stadium

The Season’s First Glide

With familiar spots like Chwiałka, Ligawa, and MTP joining the line-up of ice rinks 2025, the city offers countless opportunities to stay active and have fun. Whether you’re chasing spins, learning your first steps, or simply soaking up the atmosphere, Poznań’s rinks promise one thing above all: the simple happiness of gliding through winter together.
