Blending the boundaries of tradition and innovation, JazZamek returns to CK Zamek with an experimental twist on 9 May 2025. Expect piano like you’ve never heard it before.
JazZamek: A Legacy of Bold Musical Experimentation
Since its launch in 2016, JazZamek has carved out a unique space in Poznań’s cultural landscape, consistently spotlighting jazz in its most adventurous forms. Far from traditional, the series embraces boundary-pushing performances that blur genres and surprise audiences. Each edition brings something fresh—whether it’s avant-garde improvisation, fusion with electronic textures, or reinterpretations of jazz standards. Past performers like Niechęć, Krystyna Stańko Quintet, Jakub Klimiuk Quintet, and Royber Trio have all brought distinct voices to the stage, echoing the series’ commitment to innovation.
The upcoming JazZamek #66 fits seamlessly into this ethos. With Motoko Honda’s The Emergent Piano, audiences can expect a performance that dismantles preconceptions about what jazz—and the piano itself—can be. It’s this fearless approach to programming that keeps JazZamek at the forefront of Poland’s contemporary music scene, drawing curious minds and open ears year after year.
CK Zamek: A Historic Stage for Modern Sounds
The venue for JazZamek #66 is as impressive as the performance itself. The Imperial Castle built for Kaiser Wilhelm II between 1905 and 1910—stands today as one of Poland’s largest and most dynamic cultural centres. While the castle’s early 20th-century architecture once symbolised imperial power, it now houses over 2,500 events each year, ranging from theatre and cinema to exhibitions and concerts. It’s a striking juxtaposition: experimental jazz reverberating through the halls of a neo-Romanesque palace.
Visitors to CK Zamek can explore the castle daily from 12:00 to 20:00. Guided tours, available in both Polish and English, begin at just 7 zł, and the site also offers a charming “questing” experience—an interactive treasure hunt that weaves history with play.

Motoko Honda: Redefining the Piano
JazZamek #66 brings Motoko Honda’s distinct musical voice to Poznań. Known for her avant-garde style and innovative techniques, Honda treats the piano not just as a melodic instrument but as a percussive and atmospheric tool. “The Emergent Piano” exemplifies her belief that piano music is “essentially the art of illusion,” creating layers of sound that blend the familiar with the unexpected. Her work invites listeners to experience music as both an emotional and intellectual journey—an ethos that aligns beautifully with JazZamek’s mission.
Piano music is essentially the art of illusion.
says Honda.
The Cultural Mosaic of CK Zamek
Beyond JazZamek, CK Zamek nurtures an impressive array of artistic activity. Kino Pałacowe (Palace Cinema), one of Poznań’s oldest cinemas, screens carefully selected films that go beyond mainstream fare, while Teatr Animacji (Animation Theatre) enchants audiences with multimedia performances and modern puppetry. Also housed within the castle complex is the world-renowned Poznańskie Skowronki girls’ choir, whose soaring harmonies further enrich Zamek’s cultural offering.
Together, these institutions transform CK Zamek into far more than a venue; it’s a living, breathing testament to Poznań’s commitment to creativity.
