Join us for a unique edition of the Poetry Salon on April 20th at 11:00 AM, where we will be hosting an author’s meeting centred around the book “Bieta” by Cezary Harasimowicz. Radosław Elis, an actor from the Musical Theatre in Poznań, will read excerpts from the novel. The event will feature a special musical setting prepared by our clarinettist, Arkadiusz Kowalski.
This event presents a rare opportunity to meet both the author of the book, the well-known and award-winning writer and screenwriter Cezary Harasimowicz, as well as the heroine of his latest novel – Elżbieta Ficowska. Her extraordinarily colourful life story began remarkably. Thanks to the actions of Irena Sendlerowa, Bieta, as a six-month-old infant, avoided death. She was smuggled out of the Warsaw Ghetto to the Aryan side of the city in a wooden box hidden in a wagon full of bricks. The fate of her and other children saved at that time also inspired the musical drama “Irena,” performed at the Musical Theatre in Poznań. After the meeting, the book will be available for purchase, and guests can obtain autographs at the sales booth.

Meet the rebellious Elżbieta Ficowska (b. 1942), portrayed in Cezary Harasimowicz’s book, with whom he had many fascinating conversations. However, “Bieta” is not a biography. It is a novel. A novel that is tender, though not cloying; dramatic, yet witty. A novel about a woman whose fate or destiny, whatever you call it, reflects the history of nations forever linked, Jewish and Polish.
