Poznań is gearing up for the sixth edition of Poznański Tydzień Różnorodności (Poznań Diversity Week), an event dedicated to celebrating diversity, inclusion, and community engagement. Running from 21 to 27 September 2024, this week-long initiative, formerly known as Tydzień Tolerancji (Week of Tolerance), is designed to promote values such as empathy, openness, and solidarity across the city. This year’s edition promises an even broader programme, featuring workshops, panel discussions, and interactive events, encouraging residents to embrace the diverse cultural, religious, and social fabric of Poznań.
A Legacy of Openness and Inclusion
Poznań Diversity Week has evolved since its beginnings as a response to growing awareness of the importance of inclusivity. As Poznań becomes home to an increasingly diverse population, the event plays a crucial role in fostering dialogue and understanding among different groups. Organised by local NGOs, city institutions, and volunteers, the initiative aims to create a space where people from all walks of life can come together to learn from each other, exchange ideas, and work towards a more inclusive city.
The 2024 Theme: Unity in Diversity
The sixth edition will kick off on Saturday, 21 September, at the Old Market Square. The event begins with a vibrant opening ceremony at 14:00, where various local non-governmental organisations will host thematic stands representing core values such as empathy, openness, and community. These stands, along with interactive activities, will help participants explore and experience the challenges and triumphs of different social groups.

Some of the unique activities planned for the day include trying on the “old age suit”, an educational tool that simulates the mobility challenges faced by the elderly. Visitors can also take part in a wheelchair slalom, experience a multicultural escape room, and engage in discussions about faith, language, and the rights of various groups.
Highlights of the Programme
The week’s activities, which run through to Friday, 27 September, will include an array of workshops, lectures, and discussions. The events cater to a wide audience, offering everything from practical advice on managing ADHD to training sessions on first aid for people with disabilities. There will also be opportunities to discuss how Poznań can continue to evolve as a welcoming and inclusive city.

Promoting Empathy and Understanding
The aim of Poznań Diversity Week is not just to talk about diversity but to actively engage the city’s residents in activities that build empathy and mutual respect. This year’s workshops range from those addressing neurodivergence, such as ADHD, to cultural integration sessions that help residents understand the challenges faced by people with disabilities and minority groups. Throughout the week, participants will have the chance to expand their perspectives and engage with people of different backgrounds in meaningful, impactful ways.
In Poznań, there is no place for prejudice. Together, we are building a city where everyone has the right to feel safe and valued, regardless of their beliefs, age, or abilities.
In the words of Agnieszka Zawadzka (Equalities Officer for the President of Poznań)
A City United in Diversity
Poznań has long been a city that values diversity. The 2024 Poznań Diversity Week builds on this legacy, providing a platform for open discussions, hands-on activities, and collaborative experiences. Whether you’re interested in exploring issues of faith, learning how to communicate more inclusively, or simply enjoying the rich cultural offerings of Poznań, there is something for everyone during this special week. Make sure to mark your calendars and be part of this incredible celebration of unity in diversity.
