Poznań-Ławica Airport’s Success: A Journey of Growth

Poznań-Ławica Airport, officially known as Port Lotniczy Poznań-Ławica im. Henryka Wieniawskiego, has recently celebrated a monumental success, securing its place as one of the fastest-growing airports in the world. This remarkable achievement underscores the airport’s resilience and commitment to excellence in aviation services.

A Historic Hub

Poznań-Ławica Airport is one of the oldest airports in Poland, strategically located 7 km west of the city centre. Established along the route to Berlin and Buk, this international airport serves as a gateway for travellers heading to various European destinations. Named after the distinguished Polish violinist and composer Henryk Wieniawski, the airport has a rich legacy dating back to its naming ceremony in 2006, which coincided with the finale of the prestigious International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition.

Climbing the Global Ranks

The latest recognition for Poznań-Ławica Airport comes from the Airports Council International (ACI), which ranked it fourth globally among airports handling between 1 to 10 million passengers annually. The airport recorded a 33% increase in the number of flights in 2024 compared to 2023, marking one of the highest growth rates worldwide. This significant achievement places Poznań just behind airports in Samarkand, Tirana, and Sarajevo in terms of growth percentage.

Financial Turnaround

Poznań-Ławica has not only excelled in passenger and flight numbers but has also achieved a financial turnaround. After years of financial challenges, 2023 saw the airport reporting a record net profit of 18.9 million PLN. This remarkable recovery was driven by a post-pandemic rebound in air traffic, with the airport handling nearly 2.8 million passengers, a 24% increase from the previous year. Revenue soared to over 130 million PLN, and despite rising operational costs, the airport achieved a significant operating profit.

Destinations from Poznań-Ławica

Poznań-Ławica Airport connects travellers to numerous exciting destinations across Europe. You can reach vibrant cities such as London, with its iconic landmarks and bustling atmosphere; Rome, where history and culture intertwine beautifully; and Paris, the city of love and light. Other popular destinations include Frankfurt, a key financial hub; Oslo, offering stunning natural beauty; and Barcelona, known for its unique architecture and lively streets. To get there, simply check the airport’s flight schedule, book your tickets in advance, and arrive at the airport at least two hours before your flight for a smooth travel experience. The airport is well-connected by public transport, with buses and taxis readily available to take you to and from the city centre.

Infrastructure and Future Plans

Looking ahead, Poznań-Ławica plans several key infrastructure investments to further enhance its facilities and services. The airport’s commitment to mitigating noise pollution has also led to substantial compensation payouts, highlighting its dedication to community relations and environmental responsibility.
