Europa League Returns to Poznań This October

European football returns to Poznań this October, with Lech Poznań set to host two high-profile opponents at Enea Stadium. German side Bayer 04 Leverkusen will visit on 15th October, followed by English club Sunderland A.F.C. on 22nd October.

The back-to-back home fixtures give local supporters two opportunities to watch the Kolejorz compete in the UEFA Europa League, bringing another spell of European football to Bułgarska.

A busy European campaign ahead

This season marks Lech Poznań’s fourth appearance in the main phase of the Europa League. The club’s most memorable run in the competition came in 2010, when it progressed from a group featuring Manchester City, Juventus and Red Bull Salzburg before being knocked out by Portuguese side Braga.

Lech have also made their mark in the UEFA Conference League in recent seasons, reaching the quarter-finals in 2023. Now, the focus turns to another European campaign and a demanding schedule of fixtures against clubs from across the continent.

Under the current league-phase format, each team plays eight matches, with results determining who advances to the knockout rounds. The top eight qualify directly for the last 16, while teams finishing between ninth and 24th enter a play-off round.

Two weeks of football at Bułgarska

Bayer Leverkusen will be the first visitors to Poznań on 15th October, with Sunderland arriving seven days later. Both matches form part of Lech’s league-phase schedule, which also includes opponents from England, Portugal, Belgium, Hungary and Greece.

The home fixtures will be important opportunities for Lech to collect points in front of their own supporters. Results across the league phase will determine whether the team can continue its European campaign into the new year.

For Poznań, the matches also bring international attention to the city and its football scene. Enea Stadium will once again provide the setting for European competition, with supporters preparing to welcome two visiting clubs with their own histories and followings.

With two consecutive home games on the calendar, October promises a busy fortnight for Lech fans and another chance to see European football in the city.
