From 5 Mums in Poznań to a Nationwide Community: The Story of COOL Mum Walk Club

Family Picnic this summer

It started with five moms, one walking route in Jeżyce and a simple idea: no mother should have to experience motherhood alone.

On 6 May 2026, Ewelina Makowska started something that would grow into much more than a walking group.

The first COOL Mum Walk Club meeting took place in Poznań, bringing together just five mothers. There was no big organisation, no complicated strategy and no ambitious expansion plan. Just a desire to get out of the house, meet other mums, talk, walk and create a little more connection in everyday motherhood.

Six months later, that simple idea has grown into a nationwide movement

Today, COOL Mum Walk Club brings together mothers in 12 Polish cities, across 16 locations, including Poznań, Warsaw, Kraków, Toruń, Wrocław, Kielce and Kalisz. Around 200 mums participate in the walks every week, and the community continues to grow as more women and new locations join the initiative.

The community has also reached 215 members in its WhatsApp group and over 3,000 followers on Instagram.

But perhaps the most impressive numbers are not just the number of cities, walks or followers.

Behind every number is a woman, a story and potentially a new friendship.

More than walks: A mission to fight maternal loneliness

What makes COOL Mum Walk Club truly special is its purpose.

Motherhood can be beautiful, but it can also be lonely. Particularly during the first year, when life changes dramatically, routines disappear, social connections become harder to maintain and many women struggle to find time and space for themselves.

This is the reality that Ewelina wanted to address.

The initiative’s mission is to help combat loneliness, support mothers’ mental well-being and create a space where women can meet without pressure or expectations.

The walks are 100% free and grassroots, organised by mothers, for mothers.

You don’t need to know anyone, have a perfect routine or even be having your best day. You simply show up.

Sometimes it’s about getting some fresh air. Sometimes it’s about meeting a new friend. Sometimes it’s about having someone to talk to who understands exactly what you’re going through.

And sometimes, a simple walk can make a difficult day feel a little lighter.

Poznań: Where it all began

Poznań remains the heart of the initiative, with regular weekly meeting opportunities across different parts of the city:

Tuesdays: Jeżyce and Wartostrada

Wednesdays: Lasek Marceliński

Fridays: Park Cytadela

These regular meetings have become much more than calendar events. They are opportunities to build friendships, create routines and feel part of something bigger.

Because we are women, not only mothers

COOL Mum Walk Club is not limited to walks with babies and strollers. It also recognizes something equally important: mothers need time for themselves, too.

The community regularly creates opportunities for women to reconnect with their own interests, friendships and identities.

From tennis and padel to shared dinners, cinema and theatre outings, family picnics, yoga, painting and wine evenings, Kobido workshops and many other experiences, there is always something happening.

Some events include children, others are exclusively for women, and some bring entire families together.

The idea is simple: motherhood should not mean putting the rest of your identity on hold.

COOL English: Growing together, one conversation at a time

One of the things that makes this community particularly special is that its members are not just participants; they are also creators, bringing their own ideas, skills and passions into the initiative.

I’m happy to contribute to this journey by organising COOL English, together with Cool Moms.

We meet twice a month at Mlecz Bawialnia, bringing together mothers who would like to practise their English in a relaxed, friendly and informal environment, while their little ones play and naturally become exposed to the language.

There is no pressure to speak perfectly, no classroom atmosphere and no homework. Just conversations, laughter, new connections and the opportunity to learn something together.

It’s about giving moms a reason to practice a language, build confidence, meet other women and create a little time for their own development, while their children enjoy the experience too.

COOL English is a perfect example of how the community grows through the ideas and initiatives of its members. We all bring something different, and together we create opportunities that go far beyond the original walks.

A community that grows through its members

One of the most beautiful aspects of this initiative is that it is not built around one person doing everything.

Ewelina created the space, but the community grows because mothers bring their own ideas, energy, talents and initiatives into it.

From one walk to a movement

Looking back at where it all started on 6 May, it’s incredible to see how far this initiative has come.

From five mums in one Poznań neighbourhood to 12 cities, 16 locations and approximately 200 mothers walking together every week.

But the real achievement cannot be measured only in numbers.

It’s in the friendships formed, the difficult conversations shared, the new hobbies discovered, the confidence regained and the feeling of knowing that somewhere nearby, there are other women who understand.

A huge appreciation to Ewelina for having the courage to start this and for creating a space where so many women can find their people.

Because sometimes, building a village doesn’t require a grand plan.

Sometimes, it starts with putting on your shoes, taking your baby for a walk and saying hello to another mum.
