Women in Poznań who suspect they may have endometriosis can apply for free specialist examinations from Tuesday, 3rd November. The city is launching the third intake of its Endometriosis: We Notice, We Support programme, delivered by Szpital Miejski im. F. Raszei.

Registration opens at 8:00 am, with application forms available on the hospital's website. The same page will include the programme regulations and all required documents. Further information is available at poznan.pl/zdrowie, while enquiries can be directed to Poznań Contact on 61 646 33 44.

The programme is open to women aged between 18 and 49 who live and pay taxes in Poznań, suspect they have endometriosis and have not yet received a diagnosis. Applicants must confirm their tax status with a declaration and either an OK Poznań Card or a copy of the first page of their tax return. Women already taking part in a similar publicly funded programme are not eligible.

Participants will receive specialist gynaecological consultations, laboratory tests and any additional examinations considered necessary by their doctors. The programme also includes group workshops with a physiotherapist, dietitian and psychologist, with support tailored to individual health needs.

The initiative has already helped many women establish the cause of their symptoms. So far, 88 participants have been diagnosed with endometriosis, while the condition has been ruled out in 150 others. A further 103 women remain under observation.

This will not be the final opportunity to join. Another recruitment round is planned for the first quarter of 2027, although the date has not yet been announced.

Endometriosis affects thousands of women in Poznań

Endometriosis is a chronic condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows elsewhere in the body, including the ovaries, bladder and bowel. It can cause severe menstrual pain, heavy bleeding and fertility problems, although symptoms vary between individuals.

The World Health Organization estimates that the condition affects around 10% of women of reproductive age worldwide. In Poznań, it is estimated that almost 13,000 women may be affected.

Treatment can involve hormonal medication, pain relief and surgery. There is currently no single treatment that guarantees permanent remission, and symptoms can return. Access to an accurate diagnosis is therefore an important step towards managing the condition.

Alongside medical care, the city is running an awareness campaign under the programme's name, encouraging greater understanding of endometriosis and the importance of appropriate diagnosis and treatment.

Applications open tomorrow at 8:00 am, 3rd November 2026. Forms and programme information will be published on the website of Szpital Miejski im. F. Raszei.
