Poznań Creates Space for an Open Conversation About Menopause

On Sunday, 4 October, Concordia Design in Poznań will host Klimat Kobiecości (Femininity Climate), a day centred on menopause, women's health and the support available during a significant stage of life.

Running from 11 am to 5 pm, the event will combine talks and conversations with specialists with free preventive health checks. It is aimed primarily at women over 40 and is being organised by the City of Poznań.

Menopause is a natural part of ageing, but questions around symptoms, health, relationships and working life can still be difficult to discuss openly. Klimat Kobiecości is designed to bring those conversations into a shared public space.

“Menopause is a natural stage in a woman's life, which nevertheless still often requires education and serious conversation,” says Magdalena Pietrusik-Adamska, Deputy Mayor of Poznań. “This topic concerns thousands of women in Poznań. Through events such as Sunday's meeting, we want to provide them with prevention and practical support.”

Free health checks and specialist advice

A central part of the programme will be the health and consultation area, where participants will be able to access a range of free preventive services.

These include mammography, blood tests, mole examinations, eyesight and fundus checks, ECG, breast and thyroid ultrasound, anonymous HIV/AIDS tests and bone density testing.

There will also be opportunities to speak with specialists about areas of women's health including breast cancer prevention, obesity and urinary incontinence. Physiotherapy, pharmacy, dietetics and trichology consultations will also be available.

Talks on life after 40

The event's Scena Kobiet will look beyond the medical side of menopause, with talks addressing physical and mental health, relationships and family life, as well as professional challenges faced by women after 40.

The special guest will be Katarzyna Bosacka, the journalist and author known for her work on healthy living. She will share her knowledge and personal perspective on looking after health and wellbeing.

Marta Mazurek, a city councillor and co-organiser of the event, says the subject deserves a more serious place in public discussion.

“Menopause is not a pause in a woman's life. It is time to demystify this topic, which is still too often reduced to tasteless jokes. Women going through menopause are at the peak of their professional activity; they are often leaders of our communities, experts and mentors. Providing them with appropriate support is essential if we are not to lose their potential and energy at the most important stage of their careers.”

That focus also reflects the everyday reality of many women in Poznań, who may be balancing careers, family responsibilities and community involvement while experiencing the physical and emotional changes associated with menopause.

Workshops, wellbeing and community support

The programme also includes a space dedicated to education and personal development. Participants can join breathing exercises and yoga sessions, while Fundacja Lustro Dobra will offer colour analysis.

A number of organisations working with women will also be present, introducing their projects, support groups and educational activities.

There will be practical workshops too, including first-aid training, alongside advice from specialists on diet, hair and scalp health and other aspects of wellbeing.

The programme also touches on issues beyond menopause itself. Specialists from the Miejski Ośrodek Pomocy Rodzinie w Poznaniu (Municipal Family Support Centre) will discuss how to recognise the early signs of domestic violence.
