Poznań is inviting artists to design three new sculptures of the city’s famous goats. The winning concept will become part of a new public art trail inspired by local history and legends.
Poznań’s most recognisable symbols are set to appear in new forms across the city. The City of Poznań has announced a two-stage competition to design, create and install three new sculptures inspired by the famous Poznań goats.
The project, called “Koziołkowe szaleństwo” (Goat Madness), was selected by residents as part of the Poznański Budżet Obywatelski (Poznań Civic Budget). It aims to create a new public attraction that encourages residents and visitors to explore the city through art, history and family-friendly activities.
The future sculptures will be placed near three important Poznań landmarks:
- Centrum Kultury Zamek, ul. Święty Marcin
- Biblioteka Raczyńskich, Plac Wolności
- Brama Poznania
A New Chapter for Poznań’s Most Famous Symbol
The Poznań goats are closely connected with the city’s identity and one of its best-known legends. The mechanical goats appearing daily above the Town Hall have long been a favourite attraction for residents, tourists and families visiting the Old Market Square.
The new sculptures are intended to bring this tradition into other parts of the city. According to the competition guidelines, artists should create a consistent artistic concept for all three works, connecting them through a shared theme while drawing inspiration from Poznań’s history, legends and character.
The sculptures are expected to become part of walking routes, city games and family activities, offering another way to discover Poznań beyond the most familiar tourist locations.
Competition Open to Artists and Designers
The City of Poznań is inviting applications from:
- sculptors,
- architects,
- artists and designers with experience creating sculptures or monuments in public spaces.
The competition will take place in two stages. Participants will first submit their artistic concepts for the three sculptures. Those selected for the second stage will develop their proposals in more detail.
The winning designer will receive a prize of PLN 10,000 gross and will be invited to negotiate a contract for producing and installing the three sculptures in the city.
Five additional distinctions are also planned, each worth PLN 4,000 gross.

The key deadlines are:
- 13 September: deadline for submitting first-stage proposals
- 30 September: announcement of participants invited to the second stage
- 30 November: deadline for second-stage submissions
- December 2026: planned announcement of the competition results
The entries will be assessed by a panel including representatives of the City of Poznań, academic and artistic communities, and members of the Poznań City Council.
Plans for a Wider Goat Trail Across Poznań
The current competition focuses on three sculptures, but the project could grow in the future. The city plans to explore cooperation with cultural institutions, businesses and private sponsors to create additional goat sculptures in other locations.
If expanded, the initiative could develop into a city-wide trail connecting neighbourhoods, attractions and public spaces through one of Poznań’s most recognisable symbols.
For residents, the project represents another example of how civic ideas can influence the city’s appearance and cultural landscape. For visitors, it offers the possibility of discovering Poznań through a playful combination of public art, local history and urban exploration.
