The LOTTO 25. Poznań Marathon im. Macieja Frankiewicza takes place on Sunday, 4 October, bringing thousands of runners onto the streets of Poznań and a series of temporary changes for drivers, pedestrians and public transport passengers.
The 25th edition of the marathon was discussed at a press conference at Enea Stadion on Friday, 25 September. The stadium, at ul. Bułgarska, will once again form part of the marathon route.
For those not taking part, the main thing to note is the impact on traffic. The marathon route will be closed to vehicle traffic between 08:00 and 16:00 on Sunday, although individual sections will reopen as the race progresses.
Poznań's June 1956 commemorated on this year's medal
Runners completing this year's marathon will receive a medal marking the 70th anniversary of the Poznań June 1956 uprising.
“For only the second time in 25 years of marathon running in Poznań, we are commemorating the Poznań June 1956 events on the medal. These and other historic anniversaries have featured on the medals awarded to our runners for many years. It is a tradition we are continuing, sharing with participants our pride in the history of our city,” said Marcin Gołek, Deputy Mayor of Poznań.
The marathon also continues a long-standing tradition of local support along the route. Experienced Poznań runner Artur Kujawiński, who will make his 200th marathon start on 4 October, highlighted the relatively flat second half of this year's course and the role of spectators in supporting runners.
Traffic restrictions start early on Grunwaldzka
The most significant early closure will affect ul. Grunwaldzka, between ul. Szylinga and ul. Roosevelta, where traffic will be restricted from 06:00 on Sunday.
The wider marathon route will close to traffic from 08:00, with sections reopening progressively once the final runners have passed.
Some public transport services will also operate to altered timetables.
Residents and visitors planning journeys across Poznań that morning should check their route before setting off, particularly if they need to cross the marathon course.
A special Google Maps overlay prepared by Poznańskie Inwestycje Miejskie will show the latest information about closures and open crossing points in real time. It will be made available through the marathon's website.
Changes also affect Saturday's Poznań Five
There will be a shorter period of disruption on Saturday, 3 October, when the Poznań Five race takes place.
On Grunwaldzka:
the section between ul. Grochowska and Szylinga/Matejki will be closed from 09:00 to 11:15
the section between Matejki/Szylinga and Bałtyk will be closed from 06:00 to 11:15

A dedicated information line will operate from Thursday, 1 October, through Sunday, 4 October, for questions about getting around Poznań during the marathon.

The organisers are also advising residents to pay attention to announcements on public transport, information boards along the route and information distributed to homes close to the course.
Stary Rynek and Arciszewskiego among the cheering points
LOTTO will have supporter zones at ul. Arciszewskiego and Stary Rynek, giving spectators two designated places to follow the race and support participants.
For the wider city, the marathon remains one of the most visible annual sporting events on Poznań's calendar. The route brings runners through several parts of the city, while the temporary road restrictions will affect normal Sunday travel well beyond the immediate starting and finishing areas.
With the race now just over a week away, anyone planning to drive across Poznań on 4 October should allow extra time and check the latest route information before travelling.
