Poznań residents will have two opportunities this week to join a city-wide clean-up of areas around local waterways, as the 5th edition of the “WARTA warta posprzątania” initiative takes place on the 6th and 7th of October.
The annual action, organised by Fundacja Nasza Ziemia with Lidl Polska and the City of Poznań, will bring volunteers together to collect litter around Lake Rusałka and, the following day, around the Cybina river and Staw Olszak.
The initiative forms part of the 33rd World Clean Up - Poland campaign, which this year is focused on keeping Poland's water free from waste.
Two clean-up days in Poznań
The first group will meet on Tuesday, 6th of October, at Lake Rusałka. Volunteers will work around the lake and nearby green areas.
The meeting point is the beach at Rusałka.
On Wednesday, 7th of October, the action moves to Polana Mycielskich, where volunteers will clean areas around the Cybina, Staw Olszak and surrounding green spaces.
Both sessions run from 10:00 to 13:30.
Participants will be provided with rubbish bags, gloves, litter pickers and other equipment needed for the clean-up.
An eco-village and activities for volunteers
The clean-up is also intended to bring an educational element to the day. An eco-village will be set up at each location, with stands run by local institutions, organisations and businesses.
Visitors can expect environmental games, quizzes and activities alongside information about protecting natural areas and waterways. A survival workshop from Leśne Bandy will also join the event for the first time this year.
Registered groups will receive commemorative certificates from Fundacja Nasza Ziemia, while an ecological snack will be available after the clean-up.
How to join
The organisers are particularly inviting schools, families, community groups and groups of friends to take part.
Group places are limited, and registration is required by email at akcja@sprzatanieswiata.pl.
Individual participants should check with the organisers about the arrangements for joining an existing group before attending.
The collected waste will be taken away and managed with support from ZZO Poznań.
The two-day action is a practical reminder of the amount of waste that can accumulate in familiar recreational areas. Rusałka, the Cybina and Staw Olszak are used throughout the year by residents, walkers, cyclists and families, making keeping these spaces clean a shared responsibility.
