Unilever is investing nearly PLN 100 million in a new automated high-bay warehouse at its Poznań factory, strengthening the city’s position as one of Poland’s leading logistics and manufacturing hubs.
New high-bay warehouse marks one of the company’s largest logistics projects in Europe
Unilever is significantly expanding its operations in Poznań with the construction of a fully automated high-bay warehouse worth almost PLN 100 million, reinforcing the city’s growing importance as one of Central Europe’s leading manufacturing and logistics centres.
The investment forms part of a wider transformation of the company’s logistics operations at its Poznań factory, one of Unilever’s most important production sites in Europe. The facility manufactures well-known food brands including Knorr, Hellmann’s and Amino, supplying both the Polish market and international customers.
Once completed, the new warehouse will stand 36 metres high, comparable to a 12-storey building, making it one of the tallest automated warehouse structures in the region. The building will measure 78 metres long and 23 metres wide and will accommodate 9,600 pallets within a fully automated storage system.
Construction reaches a visible milestone
The project has now entered a highly visible phase following the completion of extensive underground infrastructure works.
New water, sewage, electrical and telecommunications networks have already been installed, while the site’s internal road layout has been redesigned to create a seamless connection between production, storage and dispatch operations.
Installation of the warehouse racking is now underway, with the structure already reaching approximately one third of its planned height.
According to Przemysław Fejfer, Director of Unilever’s Poznań factory:
“The most demanding and least visible work is now behind us. We have built the foundations of an entirely new logistics system. The warehouse and dispatch hall are now rising quickly and can be seen every day by both our employees and the residents of Poznań.”
Fully automated logistics
The warehouse will operate using an advanced warehouse management system that will automatically assign pallet locations, coordinate storage movements and prepare goods for dispatch.
The software will be integrated with the factory’s existing digital systems, allowing logistics, production and shipping to function as one connected operation.
Once operational, the investment will enable the factory to store most finished products directly on site, significantly reducing reliance on external warehouse space while improving flexibility during periods of increased demand.
Strengthening Poznań’s industrial position
The investment reflects a wider trend of automation across Poland’s manufacturing and logistics sectors.
Thanks to its strategic location, excellent motorway connections and skilled workforce, Wielkopolska continues to attract major international investment from global manufacturers and logistics operators.
For Poznań, projects of this scale reinforce the city’s reputation as one of Poland’s most important industrial centres, with multinational companies continuing to invest in long-term production capacity rather than simply distribution.
The redevelopment affects more than 25 per cent of the existing factory site, making it one of the largest logistics modernisation projects currently being undertaken by Unilever in Europe.
Completion scheduled for late 2026
Construction work is expected to finish by the end of 2026, after which automation equipment, software integration and system testing will begin before the facility enters full operation.
When complete, the project is expected to improve operational efficiency, reduce transport between external storage facilities and further strengthen the resilience of Unilever’s supply chain.
For Poznań, the investment represents another vote of confidence from a global manufacturer and highlights the city’s continuing role as a destination for high-value industrial investment.
