After a period of closures, cinema is returning to central Poznań with a new eight-screen Multikino now taking shape inside Avenida.
Cinema-going in central Poznań is set for a significant change as construction begins on a new Multikino at Avenida, the shopping centre beside Poznań Główny railway and bus station. Work on the new multiplex began in July 2026, with the opening currently scheduled for late 2027.
The cinema will occupy more than 3,000 square metres in the central part of Avenida's second level. Eight screens will bring the latest film premieres back to a location closely connected with the city's railway, bus and shopping infrastructure.
For Multikino, the project also represents a return to an important part of Poznań. The chain previously operated at 51 Królowej Jadwigi Street, the site of the first Multikino in Poland, as well as at the former Galeria Malta. Both locations have now closed, leaving Multikino Stary Browar as the chain's active city-centre venue until the Avenida cinema opens.
From two closures to a new cinema destination
The history behind the project gives the construction added significance. Multikino 51 on Królowej Jadwigi Street was the first Multikino in Poland and operated from 1998 until its closure on 9 March 2025, following the termination of its lease and plans for redevelopment of the land.
The chain's cinema at Galeria Malta disappeared alongside the shopping centre itself, which was subsequently demolished. The new Avenida venue will therefore restore a Multikino presence in another central location rather than simply adding another cinema to the city's existing offer.
Its position next to Poznań Główny also gives the project a distinctly central character. Avenida connects directly with one of the city's principal transport hubs, placing the future cinema within an area used daily by residents, commuters and visitors.
The project is currently focused on substantial structural adaptation within the existing shopping centre. More than 34 tonnes of steel framework are being installed for intermediate ceiling structures as the space is transformed into eight cinema auditoriums.
A cinema designed around the modern viewing experience
The new venue will combine familiar elements of the multiplex with updated technical and comfort features. The auditoriums will use laser projection systems, including 3D, alongside panoramic screens and modern sound systems.
Every auditorium will also feature LUX premium reclining seats with electronically adjustable backrests and footrests, placing greater emphasis on comfort during screenings.
The cinema will follow the "Vue My Way" operating model associated with Multikino's parent group, Vue International. This includes self-service elements allowing visitors to scan their own tickets, select snacks and use self-service kiosks.
For Poznań, the project is consequently about more than filling an empty commercial space. It brings a cinema concept into a part of the city where two previous Multikino locations have disappeared, while introducing a new venue shaped around current expectations for film presentation, comfort and self-service.
The opening is planned for late 2027, so the finished cinema remains a future addition to Avenida rather than an immediate replacement for the city's recently lost screens. Yet its location and scale already give the project a place in the changing story of central Poznań.
As construction progresses, the transformation of more than 3,000 square metres beside the city's main station points towards a new phase for Multikino in Poznań, connecting the chain's history in the city with a cinema designed for its next chapter.
