Unveiling the History of Kino Muza in Poznań

Nestled in the heart of Poznań at Św. Marcin 30, Kino Muza stands as one of Europe’s oldest cinemas, dating back to its inception in 1908. Through its evolution from Theater Apollo to Colosseum, Europa, Świt, Zentral Lichtspiele, and Wolność, it has retained its iconic identity as Muza, captivating the hearts of Poznań locals for over a century.

A Cultural Icon Under New Management

Since 2008, Kino Muza has been under the management of Estrada Poznańska, a cultural and entertainment institution that has been enriching the cultural landscape of Greater Poland for 65 years. It’s also a cornerstone of Poland’s network of art house cinemas and a proud member of the Europa Cinemas program.

Revitalising Tradition with Modernity

In 2019, Kino Muza underwent a comprehensive renovation, emerging as a state-of-the-art cinema complex with three screens, each boasting the highest standards of film projection. The new interiors pay homage to the cinema’s heritage while offering enhanced accessibility features. During the summer months, moviegoers can enjoy outdoor screenings on the cinema’s terrace under the open sky.

Therefore, during the renovation, we aimed to combine these elements so that Muza would be both a cinema with soul and history, as well as a thoroughly modern place. This space is meant to engage with the audience. The interior design was inspired by the history of cinema, aiming to evoke various cinematic associations.

A Commitment to Cinematic Excellence

Kino Muza’s motto, “We Know What We’re Showing”, reflects its dedication to curating a diverse repertoire of high-quality films that celebrate thematic and artistic excellence. From international film festivals to retrospectives and thematic cycles, Kino Muza offers a cinematic journey for all ages and interests.

It is important for us that young viewers see that there are places like art house cinemas, not just multiplexes showing blockbusters.

says Joanna Piotrowiak in a conversation conducted by Przemysław Toboła.

Beyond the Screen: A Hub for Cultural Discourse

Beyond film screenings, Kino Muza serves as a platform for cultural exchange and dialogue. Through filmmaker meet-and-greets, educational initiatives, and thematic discussions, it fosters a vibrant community of cinephiles and intellectuals, promoting tolerance, equality, and the exploration of human and animal rights.
