Discover nine works by Władysław Hasior at the National Museum in Poznań and join Weekend with Hasior on 4 and 5 July 2026, featuring family workshops, drawing sessions and a special lecture.
Visitors to the National Museum in Poznań can now enjoy a special display of works by one of Poland’s most influential contemporary artists, Władysław Hasior. The exhibition features nine works from the museum’s own collection and will remain on display until 6 September 2026.
To celebrate the exhibition, the museum is hosting Weekend with Hasior on 4 and 5 July, offering creative workshops, an open drawing session and an insightful lecture exploring both Hasior’s artistic legacy and the challenges of conserving his distinctive works.
Discover the remarkable world of Władysław Hasior
Władysław Hasior is regarded as one of Poland’s most recognisable contemporary artists and a pioneer of assemblage art. During the 1960s and 1970s, he became known for transforming everyday discarded objects into striking works of art, incorporating items such as dolls, mirrors and old sewing machines into his compositions.
The current display allows visitors to see nine of Hasior’s significant works from the National Museum in Poznań’s collection in a dedicated presentation.

Conserving an important collection
The exhibition also highlights the museum’s ongoing conservation work. Between 2024 and 2026, thirteen works by Władysław Hasior from the National Museum in Poznań’s collection have been included in a specialist conservation research programme led by Anna Cecylia Brzóstowicz as part of her doctoral research at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń.
Six works have already undergone comprehensive conservation treatment. The remaining objects will be conserved by Dr Paweł Napierała in the museum’s Contemporary Art Conservation Studio, while Anioł zbuntowany (Rebellious Angel) will form part of a diploma project by Karolina Magnuszewska under the supervision of Professor Sławomir A. Kamiński.
The project offers valuable insight into the complex work involved in preserving contemporary artworks for future generations.

The Wojciech Weiss exhibition has also been extended
The National Museum has also announced that the exhibition “Wojciech Weiss. Unknown Prints and Drawings” has been extended until 30 August 2026.
Presented in the Gallery of Polish Art from the 18th Century to 1945, the exhibition showcases a lesser-known side of Weiss’s artistic output through prints and drawings that are rarely displayed. Because of their delicate condition, these works are usually kept in the museum’s stores and are only occasionally shown to the public.
The current display is the second part of the exhibition, focusing on portraits, self-portraits and figure studies.

Why it matters
Weekend with Hasior offers far more than a traditional museum visit. Combining family-friendly activities, creative workshops and behind-the-scenes insight into art conservation, it provides an engaging way to experience one of Poland’s most distinctive contemporary artists while discovering the important work that goes into preserving the country’s cultural heritage.
