Poznań’s urban landscape is on the brink of a significant transformation with the inauguration of the Berdychowskie Bridges. These pedestrian and cyclist pathways are set to officially open on Friday, 28th February 2025, at 6:00 PM, seamlessly connecting the districts of Chwaliszewo, Ostrów Tumski, and Berdychowo. This development promises not only to enhance mobility across the Warta River and the Ulgi Canal but also to offer residents and visitors picturesque riverside vistas.
Bridging the City Like Never Before
For years, Poznań has been working to reclaim its waterfront and make it more accessible. The Berdychowskie Bridges are an important step in this direction, allowing people to cross the Warta river with ease. But their role goes beyond practicality — these new pathways celebrate the beauty of the river and the city’s historic landscape.
A New Route for Pedestrians and Cyclists
The project consists of two bridges:
- One spans 165 metres over the Warta River
- The second, shorter bridge, 117 metres long, crosses the Ulgi Canal
Together, they create a seamless route for those on foot or two wheels, directly linking the Poznań University of Technology campus with the city centre. This means that students, residents, and tourists will save time on their daily commutes while enjoying a stunning panoramic view of the city’s skyline.
We know how essential this crossing will be for pedestrians and cyclists. It will allow them to quickly and comfortably reach the city centre from the areas around Malta and the university. It’s a huge step forward for Poznań’s infrastructure.
emphasised Marcin Gołek, the Vice President of Poznańskie Inwestycje Miejskie.
Designed for Beauty, Functionality, and Sustainability
The Berdychowskie Bridges are not just another infrastructure project — they are aesthetic landmarks. Designed by an architectural team including Błażej Szurkowski, Jerzy and Bartosz Gurawski, Maciej Sokolnicki, and Adam Turczyn, the bridges focus on minimalist elegance, blending seamlessly with their surroundings.
One of the most striking features is the integrated LED lighting, which is discreetly embedded in the handrails. This modern solution ensures both safety and a visually stunning nighttime experience. The lighting was developed in collaboration with Poznań University of Technology, guaranteeing both efficiency and a warm, welcoming glow.
Additionally, the surrounding area is being carefully landscaped, incorporating benches, pathways, and greenery. This means that not only will the bridges improve connectivity, but they will also create a new recreational space where people can relax by the water.

A New Heart for the City’s Waterfront
Poznań has been gradually bringing life back to the Warta River, transforming it into a social and cultural hub. The Berdychowskie Bridges fit perfectly into this vision by making it easier for people to enjoy walks, cycling, and outdoor activities by the water.
I am convinced that the bridges will become another symbol of Poznań and an important point on our tourist map. Besides their transport function, this project also brings people closer to the Warta. We see how much the riverbanks attract residents looking to relax and spend time outdoors.
Mayor Jacek Jaśkowiak believes the bridges will be a key part of the city’s future.
Join the Opening Celebration
To mark the occasion, the city invites all residents to the official opening event. The ceremony will take place on the Berdychowo side, near the bridge closest to the Poznań University of Technology.
Why 18:00? The evening timing isn’t accidental. It ensures that everyone, including those working during the day, has the chance to attend. More importantly, it allows for a dramatic first impression — attendees will get to see the bridges illuminated in their full glory, making for a truly memorable first walk across the new structures.
A Step Toward a Connected Poznań
While the opening is a significant milestone, there’s still more work to be done. Landscaping, sign installations, and final adjustments to pedestrian routes will continue in the coming months. Additionally, plans to create even more pedestrian and cyclist-friendly connections across the Warta are already being discussed.
As Poznań continues to grow and modernise, projects like this show a commitment to smart, sustainable urban planning. The Berdychowskie Bridges are not just a shortcut across the river — they are an investment in the city’s future, a new gathering place for its people, and a celebration of Poznań’s unique blend of history and innovation.

So, whether you’re a daily commuter, a nature lover, or a tourist exploring the city, make sure to take a stroll or a bike ride across the Berdychowskie Bridges — Poznań’s newest urban jewel.
