The humble potato takes centre stage in Szreniawa this Sunday, 11th October, as the Museum of Agriculture hosts another edition of Poznańska Pyra. The day celebrates Poznań and its region’s signature potato.
Running from 11.00 am to 5.00 pm, the event brings together one of Wielkopolska's best-known culinary traditions with the sights and sounds of the region's agricultural past.
Pyry z gzikiem after a day in the fields
The traditional potato harvest is at the heart of the event. Visitors will be able to head out onto the museum's field, dig up potatoes by hand and take some of their harvest home.
There will also be demonstrations of historic agricultural machinery, providing a glimpse of how seasonal work was once carried out on farms across Wielkopolska.
Away from the fields, there will also be a regional market with local crafts, honey, preserves and other seasonal products.
Food is naturally a significant part of the day. Stalls will offer a selection of dishes based around the potato, including pyry z gzikiem, potato pancakes and szagówki, alongside other regional specialities.
Beyond agriculture and food, folk performances and live music will accompany family workshops, educational activities and competitions, including a potato-rolling challenge.
